Odisha Repeals Professional Tax: Major Compliance Relief for Businesses

In a significant move to enhance the ease of doing business, the Governor of Odisha has officially repealed the Odisha State Tax on Professions, Trades, Callings and Employments Act, 2000. This landmark decision simplifies the regulatory landscape for every employer and self-employed professional operating within the state.

What Changes for You?

Starting from the new financial year on 01st April 2026, the requirement to deduct and deposit Professional Tax (PT) in Odisha will cease to exist. This move is expected to reduce the administrative burden on HR and payroll departments significantly.

This is for your information, The Governor of Odisha by exercising the powers given, has repealed the Odisha State Tax on Professions, Trades, Callings and Employments Act, 2000 and the said Ordinance shall come into force with effect from dated 01st April 2026.

So, you are now not required to deduct Professional Tax in Odisha w.e.f. 1st April’2026.
