EPFO has introduced a brand-new update that allows employees to generate and activate their UAN (Universal Account Number) directly through the UMANG App using Face Authentication. This is the first time such a biometric-based service has been integrated for UAN-related activities, making it easier and more secure for users—without visiting any office or using complicated forms.

This update marks a significant step towards a more digital, efficient, and user-friendly EPFO system.

📱 What is the UMANG App?

UMANG (Unified Mobile Application for New-Age Governance) is a government app that consolidates multiple services from various departments. Now, with this update, EPFO services like UAN allotment, activation, and authentication are available on it with face recognition.

✅ What You Need to Use the Service

Before starting the UAN process, ensure you have:

  • A valid and updated Aadhaar Card

  • An Android smartphone

  • The mobile number linked with your Aadhaar

  • Downloaded:

    • UMANG App

    • Aadhaar Face RD App

🔄 New UAN Allotment & Activation Process (Step-by-Step)

For new users who don’t have a UAN:

  1. Open the UMANG App → Go to EPFO Services → Select UAN Service through Face Authentication → Choose UAN Allotment and Activation

  2. Enter your Aadhaar number, mobile number, and accept the consent.

  3. Tap Send OTP, enter OTP received on your Aadhaar-linked number.

  4. The app will check if your Aadhaar is already linked to a UAN.

    • If yes, you’ll be notified.

    • If no, continue to Face Authentication.

  5. Perform Face Authentication using the Aadhaar Face RD App.

  6. Your UAN will be generated and sent via SMS to your registered mobile number.

🛠️ UAN Activation for Existing Users

If you already have a UAN but haven’t activated it:

  1. Open UMANG → EPFO → Select UAN Activation

  2. Enter your UAN, Aadhaar, and mobile number

  3. Authenticate via OTP and proceed to Face Authentication

  4. Once validated, your UAN will be activated, and a temporary password will be sent via SMS

🔄 Face Authentication for Updating EPFO Details
